Productive end to August and a First-in-the-Hand species for this Bander

With the passage of a cold front at mid week, we had our first 100+ bird day of the season on Wednesday. In all 168 birds of 21 species were tallied for that day and combined with the last couple of days, the month has rounded out to over 600 birds of 42 species banded. A very nice August total indeed!

We had an extra-special treat today with a capture of an Olive-sided Flycatcher (photos); a species that has not been banded at the station in the modern era and probably one of only a few for the history of the banding here at this site.
