Myrtles aplenty and surprising diversity for mid-October

Recent days have brought an abundance of migrants to the Eastern Shore including the first large pulse of Myrtle Warblers. The weekend past, we were still catching a diverse variety of warbler species (20+ species since last Friday) highlighted by Nashville, Tennessee, Wilson's, Canada and Hooded. As well, the largest numbers of Black-throated Blues for the fall have been banded in the last few days (39 & 49 on the 15th and 16th respectively) and Parulas continue to have a banner year. Today saw our largest single day so far with 468 tallied...mostly Myrtles but there was still a very nice variety banded overall. Sparrows haven't really hit their stride but should pick up after the mid-week cold front on the horizon.
