All creatures great and bizarre

And welcome to the world of slug caterpillars!

This crazy looking caterpillar makes you think you have taken a step in to the jungle. One of the more bizarre types of caterpillars found here at Kiptopeke is this Crowned Slug. Instead of having legs, this creature has suckers for feet, basically meaning, this one gets around by gliding, and not the typical crawling. Not a very big larva, this individual will someday turn into a very drab brown moth. Guess they used up all their beauty while as a larva!
This particular species is fairly common here in the eastern part of the United States and is common found on Oaks.
