A long time in waiting

Finally, is all I can say. It has been since 2004, that we have caught a bird that looked like this one. This beautiful fella is a young male Rose-breasted Grosbeak that we caught on the 4th Oct.
A species that we normally don't catch many of (the average since 1994 is only 1.2 per season) but historically, we caught at least one a season. Well that all changed starting in 2005. Since then we have not caught any! Which is a real bummer. They are such beautiful birds. Ironically, in 2004, the banding station caught a total of SIX! Guess we used up all our quota on them that year! ha ha That year was the highest season total during the span from 1994-2007. We also missed this species in years 1995, 1999, and 2003. So what a treat to catch one! Finally!
