O' Canada

After a bit of a surprise in the number of migrants that pushed into the area overnight (mainly because there really wasn't much of a north wind the night before), we caught this hatch year female Canada Warbler. You can see the faint "necklace" on the chest. Canada Warbler is a species that varies from year to year in how many we catch. Since 1994 (14 seasons), 2 or less were banded in 9 of those season. But in 1998, 16 were banded and then in 2000, 11 were banded. With all that said, the season "average" is about 3.5 Canada's. Not sure how many more we are going to catch this season, but we now have at least one!
As a side note, this is a species that took me FOREVER to finally see out side of the the hand. By the time I had my first "visual" lifer, I had banded 18 of them! Now, where's that Golden-wing! ;-)
