Flycatcher Friday!

Things have been a little slow around the station lately with more dragonflies in the nets than birds however today we had a surprising amount of activity, by that I mean 12 birds but all different species! We were especially lucky to catch 3 different species of flycatchers: Traill's, our first Eastern Kingbird, and our last-worth-the-waiting bird of the day....Introducing the Great-crested Flycatcher! An absolutely gorgeous bird in the hand and very well behaved, I might add!

On the warbler front, we have been seeing a small amount passing through usually one at a time but we are definitely getting some diversity. So far we've banded Yellow-breasted chats, Canada warbler, Common Yellowthroats, American redstarts, Prairie warbler, Black-and-white warblers, Prothonotary warbler, and a Chestnut-sided warbler. All in all, I'd say we're off to a decent start!
